A Legacy of Innovation Since 1916

Our founder, Abraham Vexler, began recycling in the early 1900s with a horse-drawn wagon and a vision. He established Monterrey Iron & Metal in San Antonio in 1916. Through wars, recessions, and rapid industrial evolution, the Vexler family has guided the company with resilience ─ expanding capabilities and facilities across generations.

  • Company Founder Abraham Vexler Flees Romania – 1887

    Abraham Vexler leaves Romania and arrives in Canada.

  • Abraham Begins Recycling – 1895

    He begins collecting bottles, rags, and scrap metal for repurposing.

  • Move to Mexico – 1908

    Abraham heads to Monterrey, Mexico, to work on metal transports to the U.S.

  • A Company is Born – 1916

    Abraham moves operations to San Antonio, TX, and officially opens for business.

  • War Efforts – 1940

    During WWII, Abraham uses scrap metal to help meet the demands of war.

  • The New Generation – 1944

    Abraham’s grandson, Jack, is born two months before Abraham’s death.

  • Harold Takes Over – 1945

    Harold Vexler, Abraham’s son, follows in his father’s footsteps.

  • Jack takes the helm of the business – 1969

    Harold’s eldest son, Jack, takes over operations.

  • Jordan Assumes Role of CEO – 2024

    Jack’s daughter, Jordan, leads MMRS with a focus on building community, alongside her father and brothers David and Jeff.

  • Monterrey Iron & Metal becomes Monterrey Metal Recycling Solutions – 2024

    MMRS solidifies its role in the circular economy of responsible re-use and regeneratio
